with this laptop now let’s go ahead let’s open it up and look at the contents here all the contents first up you can see we have our product literature right here with our warranty and disclaimer information followed by our customer service and contact card with their phone number to reach out if you have any questions next you can see we have our setup guide right here walking us through our initial notebook setup for the first time flip it over same information available in multiple languages next you can see we have our charger and power supply right here and last but not least with the laptop itself let’s go ahead let’s look at that in more detail here’s the laptop up close check it out you can see front and center we have the acer logo and branding on our nice metal small and slim body for our laptop you can see on this side right here we have some of our ports in io so first up you may notice we have our power plug then we have usb type c hdmi and usb pay attention to this indicator right here that’s letting us know that with this particular usb port we can power and charge our devices from this port even if the laptop’s turned off which is really cool you can see it from this side right here have a nice little hinge and group so we can easily open up our laptop here it is from the other side you can see our additional ports and i o headphone jack usb kensington security lock and our indicator lights on this side on the back side of the hinge you may notice we actually have the swift logo and branding so check that out maybe you can see it in the camera right there it says swift which is cool and then we have additional ventilation right here just like the back side you may notice additional vents and our speakers and more product information now we can go ahead we can open up the laptop right here so check that out 14 inch display ips panel full hd dts logo we have our ryzen badge our amd radeon graphics badge and alexa built in and some quick tech specs for us so full hd 14 inch ips display with very narrow bezels you can see long battery life wi-fi 6 dual band 4 some really fast wireless speeds usb 3.2 and we have our hdmi port you can see that ventilation up here we have a backlit keyboard check out that display it looks really nice again the laptop’s just super thin and lightweight and we do have a webcam up at the top now let’s go ahead let’s power it on and try it out so you can see with the laptop all set up and ready to go the first thing you might notice when you’re using this laptop is the backlit keyboard it is really nice and bright let’s go ahead let’s turn off all the studio lights here so you can see how bright it is so here’s the backlit keyboard up close check it out it’s really nice and bright great for any dimly lit environments you can see really easy to type on and you’ll know exactly what key you’re hitting next up let’s talk about the built-in fingerprint sensor this is really a nice feature and it works great i’ve had zero issues with it so far i’ve saved multiple fingers and it works great so you can see our lock screen right here watch how quick and responsive this is so as soon as i touch it it’s gonna sign us right in near instantaneous next up you can see what it’s like to browse the web with our swift 3 laptop again we got a 14 inch display full hd check it out right here very responsive everything looks really nice we’re just browsing the youtube trending page everything is clear and crisp as you would expect same can be said if you want to check out other sites like the verge right here so again we have multiple news articles and stories the images the titles everything’s loading clearly and very very responsive to your gestures and controls everything looks really nice so let’s go ahead let’s just click on an article and you can see again different titles fonts colors clear crisp really easy to read on this display having all those pixels at a small screen size like this is really nice the resolution just looks great on this particular ips panel in case you’re wondering this screen is an ips panel and typically there’s three types of panels there’s your tn your va and your ips ips panels are typically known for their color accuracy and their viewing angles so definitely what you want to have on a laptop in my opinion to make sure you’re getting accurate colors as well as great viewing angles depending on how you’re positioning the screen maybe you’re using it on your lap on a desk that sort of thing there’s a lot of flexibility with ips panels talking about the display just for another minute you can see with our ufo test on the screen right here so we have a 60 hertz refresh rate with this display and you can see what 60 fps 30 and 15 look like obviously the more fps with the higher refresh rate that we have the smoother the footage is going to look but rest assured if you’re using this for web browsing working from home maybe you want to have this laptop for school anything along those lines it’s going to look great and be responsive enough for you so the swift 3 is equipped with the 720p webcam you can see the camera right here in our laptop and we’re currently in our camera settings so we can turn and toggle hdr on or off and then you can see we have a 2 a 5 and a 10 second timer we have some additional settings up here you can see we can turn a grid on we can turn pro mode on if we want to get rid of that hdr toggle and then we’ll be able to adjust the exposure manually here’s our photo quality so we’re at the max quality right now 0.9 megapixels 1280×720 time lapse option here’s our video quality again 720p 30fps flickr reduction and then you can see some additional windows settings right there so let’s go ahead let’s snap our photo super simple very responsive now let’s go ahead let’s take a quick video so you can see no additional video settings down here but let’s go ahead let’s take one here’s our swift three sample video from the webcam so check it out we got our light source up here watch my hand does it kind of mess with the camera so you’ll be able to see as we turn it down how it’s gonna adjust so we’ll get closer further away we’ll turn it back up again right here so you guys can see but this is going to be your raw audio and raw video sample quality coming out of our swift 3 laptop and the 720p 30fps webcam now let’s talk about battery life so with this particular laptop we’ve just used it for one charge cycle and we put it through the ringer with what we were doing so you can see right here currently showing 17 left and we still have almost two hours one hour and 41 minutes of battery life left yes if you notice right here we do have our battery saver mode on this came on at 20 percent and you can see the breakdown of our usage right here and our battery level so five hours 43 minutes of screen on time so far 34 minutes of screen off time and four hours and 32 minutes of sleep so for heavy usage downloading all of our apps conducting our benchmarking all of that done without it being connected we have almost gotten six hours of battery life which i think’s really really good so count me impressed with heavy usage you should be able to get at least five hours six hours and beyond because again if we did some math here we’re getting closer to you know 5 40 plus another hour and 40. we’re getting close to like seven and a half hours of legit screen on and heavy usage out of this laptop that doesn’t even factor in if we wanted to have power saver battery saver mode on the whole time and if we’re just doing some casual web browsing or things like that so if you’re a heavy power hungry user you can expect to see very similar results to what we’re getting here now let’s talk about the performance of our acer swift 3 laptop so first up with the included m.2 drive you can see our read and write speeds right here so with crystal disk mark we got a read speed of 2500 megabytes per second and a write speed of 1200 megabytes per second using a ssd you can see we got a read speed of 2100 megabytes per second and a write speed of 1000 megabytes per second next up you can see we have cpu z downloaded we’ll click through each tab so you can learn more about the parts and components first up you can see with our cpu tab selected we have the ryzen 7 5700u with radeon graphics then you can learn more about the main board i thought it was interesting this does have pcie 4.0 bus specs here’s our memory eight gigabytes of ddr4 you can see some more information right here in the timings of it spd graphics again we just have our amd integrated radeon graphics and then we have some bench results so our single thread score 206.9 and our multi-thread score 2504 now let’s go ahead let’s see how that compares to other cpus online so with our 206 score for our single thread you can see we’re going to fall right in line between the i3 and the i5 from intel and these are some of their mobile cpus as well with a score of 206 or smack dab right in the middle for the multi-thread score we got a score of 2504 so we fall right in line between the i5 looks like another probably mobile gpu and the i7 7700 k so not too shabby if you ask me we just fall right in here compared to some other intel cpus and you can see up top we have our ryzen 3 3100 4 core cpu above us so i thought this was interesting i stumbled upon this looking at our cpu results online but it’s showing that we have a kingston drive installed so our 512 gigabyte m.2 drive appears to be from kingston in case you’re curious about the brand they have some more information for us right here next up you can see our geekbench 5 results we got a single core score of 537 and a multi-core score of 4007 you can compare that to your current laptop or computer we can learn more about our cpu again and then you can see the breakdown of our single core performance right here we’ll scroll further down then you can see the rest of our single core performance right there and then we have a breakdown of our multi-core performance again 4007 was our score all the different data points and tests conducted and there are the rest of the results next up you can see one of my favorite tests right here we have our cinebench r23 result so we got a multi-core score of 4 900 and a single core score of 532. you can see our ranking right here with our single core score you can see it’s 11 out of 12 but you can compare that to your cpu and other results online and then here’s our multi-core score same thing 30 000 up at the top we got 4 900 so we’re towards the bottom 10 out of 12. so you can see our 3dmark results right here we’ve got an overall score of 13.76 you can see our graphic score of 1209 and our cpu score of 64.09 so here’s how we rank two other builds with the same hardware so the average is 12.85 we’re above average at 13.76 and we’re close to the best score of 14.89 now you can see our user benchmark results are here so 13 recommended for gaming 49 as a desktop and 13 as a workstation as you would expect with the specs for this particular build you can see how our cpu performed right here so showing 40 pretty average then you can see our integrated graphics 13 and then you can see our drive our kingston drive right here 150 they’re really happy with the performance that we get with this drive just disregard this drive that’s what i had plugged in earlier and then you can see our memory right here they’re happy with the eight gigabytes of ram showing 72 very good all right lastly it wouldn’t be a laptop review if we didn’t at least try to play fortnite on this laptop i know the swift 3 isn’t made for gaming but check it out you can see our fps counter right there we’re showing about 40 45 fps and you can see right here what we’re rocking in regards to our graphics settings but you can see we have everything set to basically medium and we’re getting okay results but watch as i move around really quickly you can see how everything’s working and keep in mind in the laptop’s defense we are doing this over wi-fi there is no lan port but you can see how responsive everything is right here it’s definitely bearable you can play games on this so you can see pretty responsive decent good enough i’d say for just a casual gamer if you just want to maybe occasionally use this to play some games and you’re okay with rock in 1080p and a lower refresh rate it’s definitely bearable so now you might be wondering okay david you presented a lot of great features on the swift 3 but what would you want to see changed or made different in the future well i’m glad you asked i think the biggest thing for me is having a quieter cooling option so the fan is noticeable and loud once your laptop is under a certain load and it kicks on then you’re gonna be able to notice it obviously if we’re just browsing the web or just doing some light computing it’ll never kick on and you won’t even notice but once you’re under that serious load on your laptop you will be able to tell when the fans are on so i’d love to have basically some sort of silent cooling option even at a hundred percent load especially because they did some really clever engineering with this particular laptop watch as i open up the screen you may notice it actually props up kind of like a kickstand the base of our laptop to allow better airflow and circulation keeping everything nice and cool so the good news is that’ll help keep the fans from running but if you’re gonna be doing any sort of heavy tasks and computing and it boots up the fan it’s definitely noticeable other than that i’d love to have a 1080p 60fps webcam i really feel like that was a miss on this laptop we definitely should have 1080p at a minimum and baseline with everybody working from home and doing school remotely that would be a nice addition in the future lastly for me i would still love to have an ethernet port you can call me old school but it’d be great to have an ethernet port with this laptop on that note 2 i want to point out you can use this usb type-c port to charge your laptop but i wish they would have just given us an additional usb c port for charging here and just ditch the barrel connector all together but overall really an enjoyable laptop that is definitely definitely definitely a great balance between price and performance and it gives you some top of the line features at a much more affordable price point and we still get some nice looks and aesthetics backlit keyboard and plenty of io options so overall definitely not a bad choice if you’re looking for a great lightweight small and compact portable laptop that’s still capable of doing some demanding applications and tasks well that
