For most people who want a laptop that will remain useful for several years, 16 GB is a much more comfortable starting point than 8 GB.

32 GB RAM

32 GB is useful for heavier workloads.

It can be beneficial for video editing, programming, virtual machines, large projects, advanced multitasking, and demanding games.

It can also provide additional headroom as applications become more demanding.

64 GB and More

64 GB or more is generally aimed at specialized users.

This amount of RAM can be useful for professional video editing, 3D rendering, virtual machines, large datasets, engineering applications, software development, and other memory intensive workloads.

Can Laptop RAM Be Upgraded?

This is an important question when shopping for a laptop.

Some laptops have removable or replaceable RAM, while others have RAM soldered directly to the motherboard.

If the RAM is upgradeable, buying a laptop with 8 GB and upgrading later can sometimes be more economical than paying a large premium for a higher RAM configuration.

However, soldered RAM cannot normally be upgraded later, so checking the laptop’s RAM configuration before buying is important.
